Through the analysis of Paul’s Id, Ego, and Superego in the relationship with his mother andhis lovers, it is easy to find that when Paul is together with his mother, his Ego surpasses Id andSuperego, which is a potential factor to lead to Paul’s Oedipus Complex.Second, the thesis tries to explore Paul’s complicated and deformed family environment byFreud’s subconsciousness theory according to analyzing the tragic marriage between Mr.Morel andMrs.Morel, the relationship between Mrs.Morel and her elder son, Mr.Morel and Paul, Mrs.Morel andPaul. It is clear that because of the lack of love from marriage, Mrs.Morel transforms her love to his sonsubconsciously, which makes her fall into a deformed love, but also gives Paul a wrong lead. Specialfamily environment and his mother’s deformed love is direct factor to Oedipus Complex.Third, because Sons and Lovers is an obviously romantic autobiographical novel by Lawrence, it isessential to research author’s life.
