To be a main current of grass-root education of Hui society, the "mosque education" (Jing-tang-jiao-yu) has not only preserved and solidified Hui Muslim culture, but also played an important role in the development of Hui Muslim society. As instruments to carry out the Islamic education, the textbooks of mosque education became a direct carrier of Hui culture. It is not only embodies the culture itself, but also to be a kind of ligament that embodies the living ethnicity of Hui people until today. But now, the system of mosque education is hesitating in the crossroad of modernization. Though the so-called Arabic language schools, as a new kind of education system among Hui society, has been risen up and consults with the mosque education; the problem of innovating textbooks has not been resolved. This paper is based on a fieldwork, and argues mosque education from three aspects: the historical evolution and transition of textbooks of mosque education, the cultural and social functions of textbooks of mosque education, the problems it is faced and the potential way out of textbooks of mosque education. Through a comparative study under the background of the era, the author tries to improve the process of modernization of teaching materials of mosque education. And also, some personal suggestions on the innovation of teaching materials of mosque education are given at the last.
