According to the internal construction, the modern Chinese word can be classified into two big classes: simplex and compound word. A morpheme constitutes a simplex .A word consisted of two or more than two morphemes is called the compound word. According to the way of construction, the compound word can be further divided into three kinds: multiplex type, superposition type, affixation type. A multiplex compound is composed of two or more than two different substantive morpheme. A superposition compound is composed of two uniform substantive morpheme. An affixation compound is composed of a substantive morpheme and an empty morpheme. In the constituents of the word, the substantive morpheme is called a root, the empty morpheme is usually called a affix.Chinese is an isolated language. There are many compounds and a few derivatives, It lacks the morphological change, and the affix is underdeveloped. For the understanding of affix, from such theoretical questions as the determination of the term, definition and range, etc. to the determination of concrete morpheme, the academia do not have unanimous opinion so far.Modern Chinese Dictionary (thereinafter simplified as Modern Chinese) is a normative dictionary, the range and standard in which Modern Chinese Dictionary included the affix will play a direct role when people define affix. This dissertation considers affixes included in Modern Chinese as the research object, discusses the determination criteria of the affix, try to probe the affixes in Modern Chinese microcosmically; ponder over some questions about the affix not mentioned in Modern Chinese .
