In Song Dynasty, selecting Ci was an important kind of cultural phenomenon. According to the existing materials, there are about sixteen Ci-selections of Song. They play an important role and are valuable in Ci history. Firstly, Ci-Selection has documentary value. Ci was considered "xiaodao" for a long time. Many authors' articles were not kept well because of this disdainful attitude. They were lost when spreaded. Fortunately, some Ci-Selections selected these articles,thus they could be kept. What's more, Ci-Selection provides valid evidence for compiling and verifying Ci. Secondly, Ci-Selection possesses theoretical value. Selecting Ci is actually an activity of criticism. The style of compilation and criterion of selecting reflect the author's viewpoints of Ci. In addition, some selections have the compilers'opinions. Thirdly, Ci-selection has value of thought. Though selecting Ci is an individual action, it also reflects character of times. So we can understand the contemporary opinions of Ci. There are about sixteen kinds of Ci-selections of Song including Jiayanji, Zunqianji and so on. Some of them have been lost. The edition and spread of Caotangshiyu is the most complex one. We can know from the existing data and relative research that the first edition which has two forms was cut for printing in Yuan Dynasty. During the time when Caotangshiyu was spreading, it came out two forms. One called fenleiben was compiled in regarded with content , and the other called fendiaoben by form. It's generally thought that fenleiben preceded fendiaoben. Huaancixuan and Juemiaohaoci are the most important selections in Nansong Dynasty. Researching them by contrast can help us understand well thoughts of Ci and changes of Ci forum in Nansong. Especially,Huaancixuan implied aesthetic trend of Ci in Nansong. The three selections, Huaancixuan, Caotangshiyu and yangchunbaixue, all gave consideration to Beisong and NanSong when selecting. Among them, the amount of Zhou Bangyan's Ci is in the first place, which reflects that Zhou was greatly favored in NanSong. We can know his effect to Ci forum in NanSong by analysis in detail. Ci selections of Song influenced later periods greatly. Ci declined in Ming Dynasty,which is admitted commonly. Caotangshiyu had close links with it. In the early Qing Dynasty, Ci of ode to the object was prosperous. It's a vigorous but unsuccessful movement of imitating Yuefubuti which failed finally because of only picking up the form of Yuefubuti but abandoning its essence of expressing feelings. Cizong was the banner of Zhexi Ci shool. We can also find the trace of Juemiaohaoci in Cizong. Ci-selection is a independent and important area. Its values are many-sided.
