| Sketchbooks of Tang, five Dynasties occupied the important position in the literature history and historiography history of ancient times, among them recording the notes of some information and interesting episode have reference of literature and historiography, can consult and supplementary with National history. Thus, they have higher historical reference value. Tang Zhi Yan that five Dynasties'Wang Dingbao wrote is one of a relatively high value of historical materials in a great deal of sketchbooks of this period, and it is paid much attention to by a lot of later writers. But all the time, the scholars just utilize its material to be engaged in relevant academic research, and there is fewer comprehensive research to the whole book, and there is no a monograph about this book yet, so its historical materials value has not got better embodiment. Because of the above reasons mentioned, the author chooses this research topic. This thesis divides into four major parts and makes total textual criticism and commentary to the book Tang Zhi Yan .In the first part, the author investigates the author Wang Dingbao's life first, and it is basically the summaries and supplementary of the Past scholars'materials and views. About the compiling of Tang Zhi Yan , it is mainly because the author was a Jinshi,and he liked listening to some interesting things about imperial examinations, and enjoyed inquiring the older generation and good friends the thing about imperial examinations,and he has a cherished feeling to the Tang Dynasty,therefore recorded the thing of imperial examinations that the author understanding in the book. Then the author of this thesis introduces spreading and edition situation of Tang Zhi Yan. According to the analysis mentioned above, we may find out the position of the book in later years and the situation of being collected. The pandect block-printed edition appeared in Qing Dynasty, and it had the preface. Among them, Yayutang Congshu was a better one. Part two, the author investigates the source of historical materials of Tang Zhi Yan. The chief value of the sketchbook, lies in they often more widely reflect the historical facts such respects as some social history, personage, custom, etc. So its historical materials value is paid attention to by past dynasties scholar. In order to study the value of the historical materials, the prerequisite is to investigate the source of the historical materials. The historical materials of Tang Zhi Yan mainly stemmed from four respects. Firstly, it adopted the historical books: from the content of this book that reflected, this book has quoted Shilu of Tang dynasty and Dengkeji, etc. Secondly, it adopted the sketchbook: this book quoted large amount historical materials of Li Zhao's Guoshibu. In addition, it also consulted and quoted the record of the sketchbooks such as Fengshiwenjianji,Lushizashuo,Beilizhi,Yunxiyouyi,etc. Thirdly, it quoted large amount of poems and letters of the people of the Tang Dynasty. Fourthly, as what Wang Dingbao said, he has inquired the older generations and friends. Obviously, sources of the historical materials of this book are extensive, and the historical materials are authentic and believable. So this book has higher value in historical materials. Part three, the author mainly discusses the enriching and particularity of this book historical material from the situation of the ancient utilizing the historical materials of the book Tang Zhi Yan . This part mainly compares Tang Zhi Yan and Xintangshu , we can find some records about imperial examinations in National history have sign of quoting Tang Zhi Yan , but more historical materials are unexistent in National history. Therefore, these historical materials can make National history more perfect; some of them can also correct the mistakes of National history.
