Xu Zhimo's Poetic Image And Personality

The poetry is the combination of the poet's thinking and emotion. Image, in short, is the mental picture that contains the author's emotion and thoughts. It is the important mirror reflecting the poet's personality. Because of the specialty in his personality, the poet's poetic image is also special. As for Xu Zhimo's poetry, there are some image systems which are embedded in the star the cloud the lotus and the tomb. Usually the free soul of the clouds is the very point accounting for the influence of poet's personality, which is focused by people. The cloud image cannot be easily found in that the poet's solitude as well as his attaching to the nature is hidden. In the nature, his heart is quiet. Being in solitude, he stretches his ideology freely.The cloud image is in the middle of the polarization in his personality. No matter the attitude for death is positive or negative, it unifies this contradiction at end. The loneness and death-consciousness always combined together, but the former is far beyond the latter in last period.In aspect of the poet's affection, the lotus image is as the same important as the other three images mentioned above. The enthusiastic affection between Xu Zhimo and the women whom the lotus image points to concealed the poet's chauvinism of man.
