This thesis attempts to define Xu Zhimo's thought essence again with the western humanism thought.Theorists in the past all think Xu Zhimo's thought thread is the humanitarianism of capitalist class, I think that is a misunderstand to Xu Zhimo. The humanism and humanitarianism are different concepts of two pieces of intension. The humanitarianism is only one stage of humanism tradition in bourgeois revolution period.The full thesis divides into three parts altogether. Fist part the introduction briefly introduces spiritual resources of Xu Zhimo's humanism thought. Xu Zhimo is one of the typical modern writers which are occidentalized in China. We can find the mark from the western humanism thinkers especially thinkers with Britain's cultural tradition background in a lot of thoughts of his.Second part namely chapter one describes some main humanism thoughts of Xu Zhimo. Xu Zhimo pays much attention to human's value and dignity, sends education very high concern, he respects the rational authority ,objects to the violence, love peace, maintain human and human, human and society, human and the nature get along with harmoniously, pay attention to studying the history and the outstanding civilization achievements of the ancient world. Xu Zhimo especially emphasizes the importance of the thought, pursues the key values such as the freedom, democracy, human rights and equal in the humanist tradition in the west. In addition, Xu Zhimo also advocates a kind of positive life attitude, in the face of setback being firm and indomitable.The third part namely chapter two expounds the fact that Xu Zhimo stands fast at position of humanism all the time, keeps in dependent personality of one free intellectual and criticize spirit. Xu Zhimo tries hard to defend the western humanism tradition that he inherits no matter theoretically or in literature after coming back home.
