The opera Rigoletto is one of the typical classics by Verdi, which is also a work with a long-standing reputation and popularity in the worldwide opera stage. Based on the mixture of dramatic factors and musical factors as well as the employment of knowledge in the correlative areas like literature, psychology, sociology, and aesthetics, this thesis is intended to analyze and study the tragical character Rigolctto and probe into the features of creation concerning this kind of characters by the composers in an attempt to gain a fundamental understanding of the relationship between opera creation and characterization by composers.This thesis is composed of three sections, in which the first section is devoted to the fresh interpretation and introduction of the fundamental framework of the opera Rigoletto so as to prepare for the following study.The second section elaborates on the tragical figure Rigoletto with an aim to explore the causes and development of his tragical fate.The third section dwells on seeking the creation features with regard to tragical characters by composers.
