A Study Of The Duet Art In Opera Rigoletto

Opera, an art form, which is carried by music, has two important elements:they are musical element and dramatic element. Duet is the most suitable form to reflect these two elements in opera. The study of the duet art in the opera"Rigoletto"has great significance to the search into the whole picture and the art features of the opera.On the basis of the former study, this paper aims to analysis the art features of duet in Verdi's opera"Rigoletto"through document analysis method. The study in this paper bases on the analysis to the music itself, and then gives further proof of the dramatic function and aesthetic value of duet in opera. There are four parts in this paper.In the first part, I give a general exposition to the creation of"Rigoletto". The analysis has been divided into four parts: the material chosen in this opera, a summary of the story, image of the people and theme of the opera.In the second part, study has been made on the role that duet played in the opera and the duet that was created by the composer before Verdi. And then this part aims to give a clear description of the development of duet before Verdi.In the third part, through the opera art theory and the analysis of duet in"Rigoletto", the characters'concert mastery, dramatic function and aesthetic value have been studied. At last, this paper give a conclusion on the art of duet in the opera"Rigoletto", and a further understanding of duet and its aesthetic value.
