《Shijing》 is one of poetry masterpieces before Qing dynasty, whose content covered vast regions with long history, and which, by a vehemently realitic and artistic displayment, reflect board and deep social lives and historical culture including social reality, marriage phenomena, evolution of natural ethics before Qing dynasty. Scholars of all through the ages have made research into Shijing from the aspects of linguistics, historical geography, biology, the system of persons and objects, astronomy, musicology, etc. by using large flow of revelant words descnption. But nearly few has concerned with the angle of "sexual culture", from which the essay tries to survey Shijing so as to have a bird's-eye view of the ethics conception, ceremonial custom, the system of philosophy and law; to plainly generalize questiones about human existence and the relationship between two sexes. The constant transition of social pattern and non-balanced development of social politics and economics makes the corresponding natural ethics appear abundant and complicated. So it is impossible to simply and chronically cut the Shijing times into several phases, but into three developing phases according to the socially limiting intensity of sexual culture. They are sex-worship initial age, love age and abstinency ethic age. These three phases have their own characteristics with the "Desire", "Emotion", "Reason" as predominant factors. This essay attempts to treat the mutual influence and immersion of three factors as the main clue to analyze the ethical culture of Shijing times. At the same time we can know civilians of that times how to socially and collectively uniform their individual sexual actions and thus to eventually complete the continuousness and purification of the "seed" of the whole under the law of "fit and exist"...
