Private foreign trade of China flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasty ,of which trade based on the ports of Chaozhou played an very important role .This paper mainly studies the foreign trade of Chaozhou in the Ming and Qing dynasty ,using the study methods of many other fields ,to make an detailed analysis on the ports ,trade structure ,as well as the social problems caused by the foreign trade .As to the ports ,this paper makes further study on the Nan'ao port ,Zhangshu port ,and Shantou port ,and at the same time lays emphasis on other ports that were ignored before ,such as Zhelin port ,Anbu port ,the East port ,the West port ,the Chaoyang ports ,Jinghai port ,Shenquan port ,and other temporary ones, attempting to present a full view of the foreign trade ports of that period .As to the foreign itself ,this paper firstly discusses the trade partners, characteristics and commodities of Chaozhou foreign trade ,then makes further analysis on the grain trade and the role of the overseas Chinese from Chaozhou .At last ,this paper tries to study the social problems caused by the foreign trade ,instead of the positive effect ,with the intention to gain deeper knowledge of the Chaozhou society .
