"Flavor"is an important category in Chinese classical aesthetic, is the representation of Chinese art psychic. In modern literature critic word, beyond visual and aural criterion, Chinese traditional flavor criterion is an idea resource which can not neglect. The flavor criterion also is embodiment of Chinese traditional hermeneutics. Set out from the gustatory particularity and lush culture of Chinese diet, we find that the affinity relationship between gustatory and Chinese aesthetic consciousness. In Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties, the flavor was escape from amalgamation of visual and aural, became a absolute aesthetic category, the ethos of flavor criterion gradually came into being. "Flavor"has different meaning and character in different history era. It a process from taste——true taste——aftertaste——beyond taste. "Flavor"become one of the core categories of Chinese ancient literature theory, and with the other categories mutually interpretation each other, mutually complete each other, form an integrity and self-sufficiency system. It not only a creative criterion, but also represent Chinese aesthetic character ,aesthetic law and aesthetic sense. "Flavor"theory endow the native beauty and subaudition to Chinese ancient literature theory, the way of poetry speak is a symbol of the theory which has not been changed for hundreds of years. In 20th century, the west philosophy and aesthetics had an important veer, which is language veer. The change view of language brought the change view of meaning. The west hermeneutics dispute between "mean"and "significance". Interpretation literature is a way of comprehend the mean as well as a way of judge the sensibility significance. The different interpretations of mean bring different interpretation models. The west hermeneutics go through three phases which is according to author original intention the author interpretation, according to test self the test interpretation and according to reader comprehension the reader interpretation. Due to deeply advocate abstract thought of "logic"and rationalism and language formalism, the west hermeneutics adherents of relations between the symbol and mean, immerse in the mean labyrinth. But neglect the relationship of imago and significance which contain the literature essential. Chinese traditional sense "before discourse poetries, distinguish the flavor first"is differ from the west rationalism interpretation sense. Chinese aesthetic always think judge of the sensibility significance is more important than comprehending the mean and looking for imago. Appreciate literature separate to meaning——imago——significance three administrative levels. Here "flavor"is a top level, all the meaning and significance hide in imago, interpret imago is base on mean, and finally to pursuit "flavor". From "mean"to "flavor", means moralize cognition turn to aesthetic experience, form an interpretation model of combine the mean and significance. Not only that, "flavor"is a integrity criterion including a series of hermeneutics sense: former comprehension,forecast,view fusion,Objectivity,poetry language,instinct and experience,blankness,truth…….Compare with the west hermeneutics, we can find Chinese hermeneutics non-analysis ,non-reason and non-logic character, reading, appreciate and experience connect with each other. The west hermeneutics'aim is "mean", in process of pursuit "mean", they find the mean must regress to the life, through life experience the interpretation is validity. But subject/object theory of knowledge face this problem unable do anything, because the mean is not intellective "discovery", but a life participant substance. "Flavor"is most fontal aesthetic experience. The different characters of Chinese traditional hermeneutics system are supplements for the west hermeneutics system. In a word, though flavor criterion is an old proposition, it still has life-force in modern context. Using the west hermeneutics for study "flavor"theory is a new point of view, enlighten us to recognize "flavor"anew, develop "flavor"meaning, and incarnate the "flavor"modern value. At same time, the study is use Chinese vision scan the west hermeneutics.
