The poetic flavor is an important concept in Chinese classic poetry theory.Inspired by this concept, this thesis proposes the concept of "novel flavor".Based on this breakthrough point of the novel-flavor,this thesis expounds and analyzes the unique flavor of Fusang, and whether it is retained in its English version,The Lost Daughter of Happiness. The first chapter focuses on Fusang's smile. As a leading thread throughout the whole novel, the image of her smile conveys various flavors and plays an important role in characterizing Fusang. In the translation to related contexts, the translator mainly employed the strategy of domestication,so as to reduce obstacles of reading and understanding for the target readers. However, the deletion of some images from the original context also leads to the transmission of the novel flavor. The second chapter focuses on three different colors in this work, including red, white and black, which indicate profound connotations. For this part, the translator adopted different strategies. For some abstract expressions, the translator added some images to embody, which helps promote the understanding and transmission of the novel flavor. But some metaphorical expressions didn't get enough attention in the translation and their metaphorical meanings were not fully revealed. The third chapter focuses on the art of language. The writer has demonstrated her special talent of language application and leads the readers to have a good taste of the novel-flavor from aspects:the oral language of characters and of the narrative language. In the English version, the translator employed the strategy of selecting and filtering on some oral language which are a bit rough.Besides, some tasteful and poetic expressions in the narrative language were also omitted in the translation. Therefore, the abundant novel flavor reflected from the language was not completely transmitted. This thesis probes into the profound meaning and aesthetic charm from these three aspects to show the novel-flavor and whether it's retained in the translation. The author believes that every piece of outstanding works has its own feathers and unique flavor, only when the translators pay enough attention to the flavor and try their best to pass it on,can the target-language readers be lucky enough to experience the authentic flavor as much as the source-language readers do,and can their translation be called a success.
