Wellek's "The Cencept Of Criticism" Has Significant Effects On Literature Scholarship And Literary Criticism

This dissertation aims to present a systematic research on the literary criticism of Rene Wellek. It is the background of 20th century, which includes western literary theory 'multi-cultures, New animadversion 's nuclear viewpoint , "concentrate on texture", has become perfect gradually and modernism's literature has become flourished which emphasized "interior feeling's expression"and the important role of "form", that offered a good circumstance and appropriate chance to Wellek's criticism theory. At that time the background has effects on his conception'dialectics, generality and conception. "The concept of criticism"is the kernel and logic point in Wellek's criticism theory because he insist constantly it is the clear concept and accurate situation that become the premise and foundation to all the sciences of theory. The problem should be solved first is the concept of "literary criticism". The narrow sense of "literary criticism"is the commentary comprehension and feeling through reading and appreciation. The broad sense of "literary criticism"is a systematic and reasoned science; To some extend, it is just the literary theory and literature scholarship, which form a objective, true and complete theory system. After defining the term "literary criticism", he was going to define the situation of "literary criticism"in the entire literature research. Wellek pointed out definitely the feature and function of literary theory, literary criticism and literary history. The three components connected closely and constitute "literary research". The literary criticism play an important role in research because it not only set in between literary theory and texture but also stand up with the foundation of literary history knowledges. The structure of Wellek's criticism system includes study methods, criticized object, criticism subject and criticism practice. Firstly, "perspectivism"is an kind of method that study literature completely, dialectically and deeply, which become the start point of his critical theory and special visual angle to problems in literatures. Secondly, he regarded "texture"as the main critical object because he believe the literary research is the study about the "inner regular"of literature that based on "texture". Thirdly, the theory about "subject of literary criticism"came from the comments on four western famous critics: Benedetto Croce, Paul Valery, Roman Ingarden and Lukacs. Wellek emphasized that critics play an important role in literary studies and some capabilities that critics should have. Finally, besides the research activities on theory, he also verify and complete his criticism system through concrete critical practice such as comments on romanticism literature and New criticism. Wellek's criticism theory has profound influences on the critical schools of western last half time of 20th century and many critics'arguments.
