As commonly used adverbs,"幸äº","åå","竟然"are all explained in several main dictionaries. But the dictionaries have only explained the meanings of them, there is no comparison between them. Through an analysis of a large number of examples, I find that these three mood adverbs all have the meaning of unexpected, but the unexpected meaning of them are different. In order to benefit the research in the future, this text attempts to compare these three mood adverbs which express unexpected meaning, and find out their differences and the same points. For a long time, there are a lot of articles studying on adverb, in the research of adverb, the mood adverb is caused by the characteristic of showing mood, its usage in the sentence is very flexible. The study on mood adverb is far away from enough. For the present, there are five papers on the research of "幸äº", but nobody has studied "åå"and"竟然",and nobody has compared "幸äº","åå","竟然"yet. There are two kinds of conclusions on "幸äº": One kind concentrates grammatical distributing and grammatical meaning .Of these people, Zhao Yan-chun thinks that the different location of "幸äº"in the sentence has no essential difference. The opinion of Xia Jin,Tang Li-zhen and Chen Rong-hua is that the different position in sentence will cause difference in the meaning; Another kind (Yang Yi-ming,Xu Yi-zhong) belives there are relations between the location and the meaning, but only considering from sentence structure is not enough, we must consider from semantics and pragmatism . This text will be on the basis of predecessors'researches, and study the unexpected mood adverbs "幸äº","åå","竟然"from grammar and semantics. And an make effort to have a more overall understanding with these three mood adverbs. The content of this text is divided into two parts. First , I analyse "幸äº","åå","竟然"from grammar. Second , I describe their semantic characteristic and semantic mode. In the first part, I study from two aspects . Firstly , investigate the locations of "幸äº","åå","竟然"in the sentences. Secondly, I analyse the compositions that these three mood adverbs modified. In the second part , we study the sematics of"幸äº","åå","竟然"from three aspects. Firstly, we analyse the meanings of these three mood adverbs. secondly, we summarize the semantic modes that they used, Finally, we compare the similarities and differences between them.We can draw a conclusion as followed: "幸äº"is used in the simple sentence or conditional clause , and it usually lies in the beginning of the sentence to connect the chapters. And it can express the mood of surprise and lucky for avoiding evil consequence. "åå"is used in the transitional clause. It can lie in the beginning of the sentence, and it also can lie between the subject and the predicate of the sentence. Not only the speaker's expectancy has not been realized, but also the reality violates the speaker's will on purpose. This makes the speaker feel discontented and so the speaker displays unexpected mood . "竟然"is used in the transitional clause. It usually lies between the subject and the predicate of the sentence, and in the sentence inevitable result appears seldom. The clause which uses "竟然"expresses the speaker's unexpected mood to the accidental result.
