On Building A Well-off Society In An All-round Way And Promotion Of People's Overall Development

The topic of showing concern to people is the main theme throughout Marxist doctrine, the core theory of which is interpreted by the theory of overall development of the people. In The Communist Manifesto, Marx and Engels pointed out that in the communities where classes and class confrontation are abolished, "Every person's free development is the pre-condition of the free development of all mankind." This has demonstrated a beautiful perspective for the development of mankind and the goal for which we should strive.Well-off is a unique concept in China with a long history. It is a concept rich in traditional values and deep cultural and abundant connotations. In all ages, "well-off" contains three different connotations, namely the Chinese historical well-off ideal, the well-off society designed by Deng Xiaoping, and the well-off society depicted by the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. These three connotations are mutually distinct and closely interlinked."Well-off" is the primary stage of the ideal society — communism. It is a self-sufficient petite culture society founded on the basis of backward productive forces and feudalism private ownership, reflecting the desire and pursuit of the common people who have long been poverty-stricken for the life without worrying about food and clothing. The well-off society designed by Deng Xiaoping refers to the condition that on the basis of subsistence, people's life quality is improved with ample food and clothing. And so far, we have achieved this goal. The goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way adopted by the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is a goal of starting a new stage of socialist construction with Chinese characteristics. It is based on the primary objective and ultimate end-result of overall development of the people under the condition of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This is the innovative development and practice of the theory of people's overall development towards Marxism and Leninism by the Communist Party of China under the new historical era.This paper discusses the dialectic relationship between building a well-off society in an all-round way and the promotion of people 's overall development. It consists of three parts:Part one: it clarifies the content of Marx and Engels "theory concerning people's overall development", and the material conditions, social conditions, and subjective conditions of the realization of people's overall development; and it elaborates on the innovative development of Communist Party of China towards the theory of people's overall development in the new historical era.Part two: it illustrates that promoting people's overall development is the goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way from the following four aspects: promoting the overall development of people is the inherit essence of the new socialism, the specific manifestation of the superiority of socialism, the basic contents of socialist modernization and the goal of the socialist values.Part three: it expatiates on the close relationship between building a well-off society with all-round way and promoting the overall development of the people from the following two aspects: the basic definition of people's overall development in the report of 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the approaches of promoting people's overall development in the process of building a well-off society in an all-round way.
