Ludwig Van Beethoven( 1770—1827), a German composer and pianist, was a great milestonelike master in the music history, who was an agglomeration of classical music and a pioneer in the romantic music. "Choral Fantasy" and "Ode an die Freude" were written in his mature and later period. "Choral Fantasy", which uses Christoph Kuffner'poem "When love and power melt into one part" as its words, is a Fantasia for chorus, orchestra and piano and has a special structure. The whole composition was developed from a short subject to a harmonious procedure. "Ode an die Freude" was an excerpts from the last choral of the Ninth Symphony of Beethoven, which used Friedrich Schiller's poem "Ode an die Freude", is a gigantic work overflowed with philosophy and heroism. Beethoven's work gives Schiller's work clearer ideas and lets it gain more enthusiasm and power. This passage has three parts: the first and the second parts precisely analyses the background and the experience of writing "Choral Fantasy" and "Ode an die Freude", the music itself and the character of the words. The third part compares and makes a research of the music of these two compositions, choral passages and their characters, which lets us better understand the differences of Beethoven's music in styles, art plots and thoughts.
