Art is the reflection of philosophy and reflects certain cultural psychology by its own way and expresses the deep foundation of this cultural consciousness. This paper, linking traditional Chinese viewpoint on nature with the art of natural dyeing, examines the character and nature of traditional Chinese natural dyeing from the cultural point of view, reviews the past and looks forward to the future from Chinese culture and national spirit, and aims to understand the aesthetic characteristics and spiritual nature of the art of natural dyeing.The paper begins with a poem by Ezra Pound, American poet and literary theorist, and draws forth some new ideas. The section of introduction mainly introduces the reasons why the author chooses this topic, current state of research in the academic circle, and some viewpoints supporting the argumentation of the paper.Chapter two reviews the origin and main contents of traditional Chinese viewpoint on nature and aesthetic principle.Chapter three analyzes the close relation between natural dyeing and traditional Chinese natural viewpoint from the material, craft, pattern and color of natural dyeing.Chapter four, following the school of clarification of artistic conceptions in classical Chinese aesthetics, puts the artistic conception of natural dyeing into five categories: elegance, vigor, magnificence, plain, and grace, inquires into the methods of achieving each of the above mentioned styles for thepurpose of grasping the features of artistic conception in different kinds of natural dyeing art design and its design methods.The conclusion summarizes the whole paper and acquires a deep and comprehensive understanding of the aesthetic features and natural wisdom embodied in the art of natural dyeing.
