Thomas Hobbes is a famous materialism philosopher, great politicalthinker and one of the important representatives of the nationalism inBritain in the 17th century. With his remarkable intelligence, he haselucidated the unique and significant natural right theory among whichthere are some profound original ideas still glistening sparklingly so far.This thesis attempts to represent the original appearance of Hobbes'snatural right theory, and through combing its traditional theory originand its development in contemporary, we can manifest the theory'simportant position in Hobbes's political philosophy system and the wholewestern natural right theory's development.Hobbes's natural right theory has its deep theory origins among whichclassical natural right theory and natural right theory of Middle age offera theory preparation for Hobbes to rupture with tradition. In the periodof Ancient Greece and Rome, people complied with natural law that showsthe "nature"attribute of human rights. Stoic theory and the thought ofRoman jurist launched the discussion of human's equal right progressively.And in Middle age, the extension of the natural right thought within therange of religious authority plays a certain role for the proposition ofHobbes's natural right theory. Especially the natural right theory ofGrotius who belongs to the initial stage of modern works a kind of directinfluence on Hobbes.The second part which is major in this thesis, aims at making overallinvestigation to inference prerequisite, connotation and gradual progressof Hobbes's natural right theory. Human nature hypothesis, natural stateand natural law establish the solid theory foundation for Hobbes' naturalright theory.
