Thomas Hobbes is known as the founder of modern political philosophy,his natural right thought is an important part of his political thought.The article introduces thoughts origin of natural rights,contains the classical natural law thought and the medieval natural law thought and the natural law thoughts of Grotius.These thoughts provide theoretical background for Hobbes’s theory of natural rights.Hobbes natural right theory is the theory basis of human nature.The element of humanity is passion and reason.Passion as the beginning of internal movement,rationality is a kind of words between the reasoning. The passion and rational relationship respectively is:passion ahead of rational,passion is stronger than reason,rationality is fool of passion.Hobbes denied that Aristotle is the man who is born of the concept of a political animal.He thinks that human nature is selfish,vanity.In the natural state is the war of all against all.Natural law is the top priority of the quest for peace and keep the peace.Hobbes from absolute personal subjective will,expounds the man’s natural rights.Natural rights including freedom,equality,self-preservation three aspects.In Hobbes’s view,good is not natural right but appetite for self-preservation,that is to say,will of vital motion.According to the nature of body, it is impossible for human being to give up rights to self-preservation in any case. In order to assure the importance of intrinsic rights, Hobbes claims that right should take the priority at obligation. From obligation to right shift,Hobbes natural right theory different from the classical theory of natural rights.
