At the end of Spring and Autumn Period, "Propriety has been broken and Music has been fallen". Confucius expected the society to come back to the harmonious state. Confucius thought that the peace and stabilization of society could only be finalized by constructing propriety and music. Therefore, the idea that Harmony is beauty is circling around propriety, which means the individual should observe the propriety forwardly, and then the Harmony between the individual and the society could be finalized. "Exemplary persons(junzi) gather together with others, but do not form cliques." and "Exemplary persons(junzi) seek harmony not sameness;then, are the opposite." is the important proposition of the idea of Harmony of personality. Harmony of personality mainly display Harmony between refinement and disposition, Harmony between emotion and principle, Harmony between Heaven and human. Confucius emphasized that the Harmony of personality is the foundation to finalize the Harmony all over the world. Only when the Harmony of personality has been finalized, could the extension be made from self to the others, fromthe relatives to the stranger, and then it bring about Harmony between individuals, Harmony between family and nation, Harmony between Heaven and human.Confucius attach great importance to Harmony of arts. Harmony of arts demand the idea and thought of work of art should "Go vigorously without swerving" , demand the emotion of work of art should be "Happy without excessive feeling, sorrowful without being injurious", demand the form of work of art "Concise and comprehensive language", aspire to elegance and normalization, " I detest the fact that purple has stolen the place of red in noble dress;I detest the fact that the sounds of Zheng are corrupting our classical court music". Confucius think that arts could be helpful in achieving Harmony of personality. The idea of Confucius that "Harmony" is beauty has become is one important thinking methodology of the Chinese nation. The idea that "Harmony" is beauty advocated by Confucius stand for reasonable and appropriate principle. It aim at constructing humanity which sensibility and rationality are harmonious.
