The Outline Of Design Sociology

With the development of Chinese market economy, China's industrial design has received unprecedented attention and expansion, and the industrial design major has become one of the fastest growing college specialties in recent years. But having not clearly set up the theory structure system of design in China's industrial design study, the major concentrates more on aspects of design expression, and lacks research and discussion on the essential purpose of industrial design. This has seriously fettered the further development of industrial design in China. To this end, I have put forward the idea of a discipline theoretical system of industrial design clearly, for the first time at home;divide the industrial design study into three levels;essential level, principle level and expressional level. These can then be used to organize and develop the existing design theory found in China.At present, the problems that design is faced with can not be solved only by design knowledge itself. In other words, industrial design, as cross discipline as it is, needs to absorb relevant material from many disciplines to support its further development. This research, on the so-called design principle level, should be horizontally compared with other relevant disciplines to study various kinds of the controlling factors, and then probe into the design science theory and concrete design principles.As design is aiming at the groups in the specific social environment, I attempt to introduce the knowledge of sociology, a study that uses the scientific method system to probe the interaction between the society and human behavior, into the theoretical research of industrial design, to help to explain how industrial design is influenced by various kinds of social factors in design's developing history, and how the whole design system is operated.Based on these, I have put forward the outline of Design Sociology, a new design theory based on the interaction between design and society, and I attempt to examine the rationality of this theory by using the design sociology principles to explain the hot topics of design theory groups at present. I am also doing a comparative study of the presently existing design theories.Finally, the author uses the assumptions of design sociology to analyze and predict the development of China's design industry.
