The series novel 'Harry Potter' was created by English woman writer J.K.Rowling. It contains the rich mythical factor, the witchcraft fantasy component and thefolk cultural factor. It has inherited England traditional culture, fantastic novel andchildren literature and it is published in the turn of the century. It was a childrenliterature work, which has fantastic property melting with tradition and modern, realityand fantasy. This work has attracted children and the grown-up reader from variouscountries because of its literary property and the ideological nature. It has raised thereading upsurge in the network and has formed a new literature phenomenon. The understanding of 'Harry Potter' should not limit to the narrow scope ofchildren literature, the fantasy literature and even religious culture background. In theprevious research, the mythical factor and the archetypal nature had already obtainedthe affirmation and the certain attention, but the study and understanding of this workwith the archetypal critical theory can not be developed so well. This thesis is anattempt to carry an understanding with the aid of the critical method of mythicalarchetypal. It is from the understanding of cultural archetype, which is a broadermacroscopic aspect.'Harry Potter' has reappeared the mythical epic of human childhood time. It isreplacement and distortion of traditional mythical archetypes under culture linguisticenvironment in the modern society. This thesis mainly used Jung , Frye and other'sarchetypal theory. It analyzes clear archetypal characteristic of this modern fairy fromthree angles, which are structure establishment (dual world) of the work, thearchetypal images (archetypal characters) and the archetypal subject (hero archetype). The archetypal characteristic causes success of 'Harry Porter' in imagination. Inaddition to this it has own spiritual connotation and cultural significance that surpassitself. The success of the work depends on eternal charm of archetypes. The concernsof children, growth and human itself expressed in the work has traditional inherits andsubversion, which mainly manifests archetypal transformation of Anima and Satan.Modern people's spiritual need was reflected by hero archetype throughout the wholework. In brief, the main point of the entire work lies in 'human' itself. This work alsohas attempted to give reversion to original state of 'human' and 'society' and gets ridof the fetter of 'the object' and seeks help from the ancient matriarchal principle, which form the sharp comparison with the influential paternal principle in the modernwest history. Creating the ideal world that takes feminine principle and 'humanist' asleadership. Liberating constrained mind of the modern people and completing thereturning to one's native village in spiritual way. Taking it as an attempt that modernpeople seeks road of the spiritual returning. 'Harry Potter' has the significance ofspiritual initiation and cultural returning.
