From Aesthetic Images To Cultural Perspectives

The art form of TV series, which has become one of the most popular TV art forms inChina, has great and widespread influences on people's daily life. In the current social life,whenever TV sets are turned on, various TV series with all kinds of topics and styles pumpout. As a theory of a new and developing art, the theory of TV series art, which combinesmany theories in other fields, can enable researchers on film and TV art deepen theirresearch on TV series art. Besides, the TV series featuring in people's life in China'snortheast Dongbei Province have been broadcast frequently nationwide in recent years,which has brought new vigor and energy to the market of TV series.In recent years, the literary and art form with Dongbei characteristics has no longerbeen shown only on Spring Festival Evening Party held by CCTV. Many fascinating artforms in Dongbei, which can seldom be seen on TV, including Er Ren Zhuan, a singingand dancing art form performed by two performers, have become a popular topic for thoseTV series about rural life in Dongbei. From Liu Laogen and Ma Dashuai to On the Bank ofShengshui Lake, the TV series with a theme of displaying the real rural life in Dongbei,have impressed the audience across the country by the special customs in Dongbei, theboldness and optimism of people in Dongbei, and the interesting Dongbei dialect. TheseTV series have brought a fresh and new flavor to the TV series market.There are many causes behind the popularity of the TV series featuring in the realityin rural Dongbei. The current thesis will take three TV series, namely Liu Laogen, MaDashuai and On the Bank of Shengshui Lake, as the research objects to explore thosecauses from such aspects as economy and culture. The present researcher will start with thecharacterization of the characters in these three TV series, and base his study on suchtheories as the theory of characterization, the theory of culture studies, semiotics andaesthetics of reception, to make a contribution to the production and appreciation of TVseries in Dongbei.
