This thesis attempts to study the world salvation theory in Lawrence's poetry D.H.Lawrence (1885-1930) is a very controversial writer with unique personality, writing novels, poems, essays, book reviews and letters. Although having been long neglected, Lawrence's poetry has its unique philosophical and aesthetic valve. It reflects the responsible poet's observation and meditation on life and his resentment and challenge against all social evils. Poetry for Lawrence becomes an ideal instrument for dissecting social illness and searching for treatment. In composing poems, Lawrence reaches the perfect unity of art and philosophy. He goes farther than others in the exploration of how human beings can maintain self-integrity and establish the natural harmonious society. Lawrence's life-long research sheds light on three major ways of world salvation: love, nature and death. Thus the thesis consists of three chapters.Chapter one discusses Lawrence's belief in the magic power of love. It includes two parts: star equilibrium in harmonious marriage and self-integrity in sexual relationshipsChapter two studies Lawrence's passionate endeavor in propagating the return to nature and human nature. It is made up of two parts. The first part deals with the intimate relations between men and nature. In the second part, Lawrence's bitter satire to Western civilization and his attempt in establishing the ideal society will be introduced in detail.Chapter three elaborates the poet's meditation on death and rebirth of the soul, as the ultimate resolution to fulfill his salvation dream.Lawrence's salvation theory presented in his poetry, seems immature in some aspects and his ideal encounters failure in real fulfillment. But he gives sincere and serious comprehension and meditation in it, and offers valuable treatment to cure social evils. And the social problems and treatments provided in his work may offer useful advices to our modern life and sustainable development.
