This thesis is intended to make a study of Bing Xin as translatress with a focus on her Chinese translation of Gitanjali. Bing Xin is best known as a famous poetess, writer and essayist, but she has also contributed a lot to the intercultural exchanges between China and other countries by way of her more than thirty translations of foreign literary works. Unfortunately, her translations have somehow been unduly neglected in the circles of translations studies. This thesis attempts to bring the ignored achievement of Bing Xin to light by a systematic study of her translation of Gitanjali.In addition to Introduction and Conclusion, there are three chapters in this thesis. In the introductory part, there is a general survey of Bing Xin's translation. It highlights the phenomenon of Bing Xin's translation as a research issue and the necessity and significance of valuating her translation. Chapter One focuses on the history of translation of and research on Gitanjali in China and Bing Xin's translation activities of Gitanjali. Chapter Two explains her choice of the source text and her skills in her translation of Gitanjali. Chapter Three further presents her translation of Gitanjali from the viewpoint of feminism. The last part is a summary of the thesis.
