This thesis focuses upon cross-cultural competence and its influence on English teaching. Cross-culture has become the most important topic in the field of language research. People more and more realize that language and culture are inseparable. They work in tandem. Each language has its culture. English teaching is not only the teaching course about the English language itself, but the course of understanding English culture background knowledge. Some scholars and experts on cross-cultural competence and English teaching think that English teachers should put the culture knowledge into English teaching.In the terms of theory, we discuss about cross-cultural competence, culture, English teaching and the relationship between the culture and English teaching. At the same time, we also demonstrate how cross-culture and culture affect English teaching. Meanwhile in this thesis we point out the significance of culture teaching through the theories and experiments. We also offer some potential problems when we try to find out the sources of the cross-culture. We think the core of culture is philosophers' thought.According to the theories, during English teaching, we should gradually introduce western and Chinese culture background knowledge in the book, and instruct the students to master the cross-culture. At the same time we also hope all the English teachers pay attention to cross-culture.On the ground of the views above, in this thesis, we discuss about how to educate the learners' culture quality and how to introduce culture background.
