Immaterial Interface Design

Nowadays, the information society is expanding from a Manufacture-based Material society to a both Manufacture-based and Service-based society. This kind of expansion, not only extended the scope of design, enlarged design's function and social function, but also changes design's hypostasis. The focus of design has expanded out from absolute material-manufacture, expanding from absolute material to material-immaterial symbiotic.Under this background, this thesis tries to research the immaterial society's influence to design. At the same time, it focuses on a key point of post-modern design: an abstract relationship between human and machine - digital interface. The digital interface is a fictitious product, belongs to immaterial level, and provides information usage, transaction, and management for user. So we call it as immaterial interface here - to distinguish it from product interface which have material entity.By analyzing immaterial design's philosophy significance, expatiating the definition and history of interface, this thesis clearly exhibit every aspect of immaterial interface design, and then deduce an original theory. The core of the immaterial interface design is user-oriented interaction behavior design. At last, it forms an integrated immaterial interface design theory system, from design phase to appraisement phase, and then discusses the application of the theory system.
