WU Ming Shu is a complex and miscellaneous book, through which, humanity and life pass all along. Wu Mingshi makes the heroin Indi live through difficulties and hardships of revolution, love affairs, sins, religion and universe, aiming at searching for ideal life based on real and perfect humanity. The process in which Indi is searching for a perfect life is what Wu Mingshi forms and presents to readers his unique philosophy. This essay, comprising of two chapters, unscrambles the philosophy theme of the book.The first chapter:This chapter aims at the realization of humanity of Indi. The first three volumes of Wu Ming Shu probe into humanity by means of the stage of politics, love in a sick urban society. The realization of humanity is Indi's main pursuit before his conversion to religion. It is a process from "idealism to realism", "sensibility to sense". When Indi steps into the society, he devotes himself to politics, dreaming of sensibility and humanity. Soon he feels lost when he confronts the contradiction between politics and humanity. Then he harbors himself in love, seeking for some kind of aesthetic pure love. In his opinion, the love he dreams of is the utmost realization of perfect humanity. However, to an ambitious pursuer, such kind of shallow "selfish" happiness contradicts his long-range aspiration. Finally, Indi gives up his love and throws himself into the social reality, thus beginning to taste the bitter yet real human torture. At the same time, affected by "up rising motivity" and "increasingly protruding rational thought", he quests for the opportunity to promote himself while degenerating.The second chapter:This chapter stresses on the rational construction of philosophy of life in the book Wu Mingshi. It begins with the explanations of "what should life be?" and "what will become of life?" "Kindness" and "beauty" are the keys given in the book, which together with "reality", form a complete system of Indi's philosophy. This essay begins to annotate "kindness" with Indi's pursuit of freedom and morality. Ethically, "kindness" is directly related to the value of freedom, which leads to "kindness".
