Facial expression and recognition are the hot point of the research on facial recognition study. The key point of the recognition of facial expression is whether it can be processed in an automatic way.Since more evidences are needed to confirm the exsistence of visual mismatch negativity, the first ERPs experiment, with the mismatch negativity as the index, used a cross model delayed response paradigm to find answers to these questions. The results showed that under unattended conditions, mismatch negativity was evoked by using facial expression as visual stimulus. And in the former facial recognition research, there is no conformative conclusions in the problem that whether different levels of familiarity in face photoes bring on different recognitive processing. The second experiment used familiar face photoes as well as novel face photoes as the visual stimulus. Results showed that different levels of familiarity in face photoes led to the difference of the late ERPs components. Above all,it can be concluded that both facial expression and the levels of familiarity can be processed in an automatic way.
