Bixing, belonging to the method of Chinese classical literature theory, appears firstly in the Book of Songs. In Tang and Song Dynasty, it is drawn lessons from by Chinese painting art, and especially promoted greatly in the flower and bird painting section. This article, which begins with the description of its origin and its combination with art of the flower and bird paintings, is expected to discover the human connotation, realistic meaning and value of this traditional form of expression.The article quotes a sentence in the book named Xuanhe Painting at the very beginning and then brings up some theories in the following parts. This part mainly introduce the enlightenment drawn from Bixing from the Book of Songs and the cause of the questiones.Chapter 1 analyses Bixing' s literatural meaning by comparing expositions of different periods.Chapter 2 explains that the use of Bixing in the flower and bird paintings has its historical origins, describing the influences of traditional literature and philosophical thinking on Bixing.Chapter 3, the key part, shows the flower and bird paintings influenced by Bixing from three aspects: the flower and bird painting — the human spirit refracted from flowers and leaves;plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum— the combination of Bixing and poetry and paintings;and the expansion of Bixing.Chapter 4 discusses the creation of Bixing in the artisticconception of the flower and bird paintings.The last part, as a conclusion of the whole article, shows an overall comprehension of Bixing' s use in the flower and bird paintings, on the basis of which the readers' thinking of future study and creation is aroused.
