China is an old civilization with a history of five thousand years and brilliant culture. The Chinese vocal music saw its most important development during the time between the early of the 20th century and that of the 21st century, and in less than a hundred years, with their diligence and intelligence Chinese people has brought great prosperity to the art of Chinese vocal music.Ever since 1949, the Chinese musical circle has attached great importance to the theoretical study of the art of music. They have accumulated, arranged, and summed up all kinds of musical art forms, including the theory of Chinese national vocal music as well. So far, with an in-depth research, the theoretical study of Chinese national vocal music has achieved a lot. Reviewing and analyzing these achievements, we find that most of the study deals with the skills of singing, acting and teaching etc. of Chinese national vocal music, however, little research has touched upon the scope of the Chinese national vocal art of the contemporary era, so it started later with slower expansion.Because it synthesized the Chinese traditional vocal music and the Occidental one, the contemporary Chinese vocal music has made obvious change in its content, form, style and other aspects. Chinese vocal music begins to reveal its particularity and complexity. And in the 1980s, there appeared a division of singing techniques in the Chinese national vocal music, which brought people to focus more on its singing style. However, less attention is paid to the study on the relation among the Chinese vocal music, the Chinese national vocal music and its singing style, so gradually bias even errors occur in determining the scope of the contemporary Chinese national vocal music. Every form of the art has its own cultural foundation and particular features. Based on the analysis of all the achievements of the theoretical study of the Chinese national vocal music since 1949, and combined with the current and future tendency of the development of the contemporary Chinese national vocal music, this article attempts to study and determine the scope of the contemporary Chinese national vocal music through the cultural perspectives of "source" and "pluralism", and explores its aesthetic features by way of aesthetics views and insights.In the 21st century, every field of the society has taken on various forms andadvanced with faster speed. Facing a new era, a new social backdrop and the ever increasing need of people's aesthetic taste of art, a higher demand is required of the Chinese vocal music. Entering a new century and with the help of comprehensive, scientific and systemic study in the theory of Chinese vocal music, to build a vocal music system that is genuinely of Chinese flavor would be the ultimate goal for the Chinese musical circle to achieve.
