On The Narrative Art's Of Contemporary Documentary In China

Documentaries in China used to neglect the investigation and discovery ofordinary people before 1980's. Since 1990's with further development of open policyand the increase of international communication, some excellent documentariesabroad and the very new notions and styles impel the civil workers to change theiridea. Thus, the essence of documentary is highly respected;the principle of realism isfully confirmed. Documentaries in China have broke away from the homiletic andformalistic way of telling stories. Instead, they pay close attention to the investigationof humanistic topic, the discovery of essential beautiful of human beings, thecultivation of people's innate world and the shaping of characters and emotionaldevelopment. Creating room for documentary production is enlarged through usingreal people and real things to move the audience, looking high upon reality, focusingon ordinary people and daily affairs and extracting stories from real life.In China in recent 20 years, great achievement has been made in documentaryresearch, large number of research papers and theoretical research monograph havebeen published. The theory of narrative provides documentary production withconcrete guildline. Narrative is one of the most filtering and expressive factor inproducing documentaries. Also it is the most attractive one.However, narrative theory, as a newly developed research area, has not beenattached enough importance. It is still in its infant stage. In this paper, positiveresearch method and literature analysis have been employed to carry out the research.The constructive rules, ways of expression, and aesthetic features are supposed to berevealed in the thesis in order to contribute some positive guidelines to documentaryproduction. Meanwhile, the thesis is also with the expectation to arouse moreattention to documentary narrative theories among academic researchers andproducers of documentaries.
