Seeing-off is a major theme in poetic creation in our country. It is significant not onlyas experiences in life but only as creative materials. "It is not easy to meet and hard todepart." is the common feelings for departure in every periods. "North Wind, Swallow","Qinfeng weiyang" in the first poetry anthology "The Book of Songs" can be regarded asthe forerunner of Seeing-off poetry in our country. Afterward, the creation of seeing-offpoetry gets further development in Han-Wei Six Dynasty. Up to Tang Dynasty, seeing-offpoetry achieves great success and becomes popular with the coming of the mostmagnificent period of poetry. In this period, many famous poets appear and they produce alarge number of brilliant poems. Cen Shen, a poet in the heyday of the Tang Dynasty, isfamous for his frontier fortresses, also creates many seeing-off poems. Out of his existing400 pieces of poems, there are more than 130 pieces belong to seeing-off poetry. Itaccounts for more than 1/3 in all his poems. These poems are not only the revelation ofpoet's true feelings but also the presentation of human beauty. It is also colorful andspecific in genre and contents. Therefore, to have a systematic study to these poems helpsto understand the thinking changes, poetic style and social atmosphere of poet in differentstages. This dissertation can be divided into four parts: First, exploring the creative reasons ofCenShen's seeing-off poetry from two aspects: the social culture background andCenShen's individual experiences and personal characteristics. Second, dividing theseeing-off poetry into two kinds: frontier fortresses and other seeing-off poems. Becausenearly no poets like CenShen in Tang Dynasty comes out to border area twice in one's life.The strange scenes of the western regions and fierce battles of border areas have greatinfluences on him and enable him to create many frontier fortresses. Among thesefrontier fortresses, the most distinguished is seeing-off poetry. Therefore, I will give aspecific analysis to this kind of poem and mainly explore different kinds of seeing-offpoetry in terms of the contents, thought and artistic features and get an overallunderstanding to the artistic features of Cen Shen's seeing-off poetry.
