This paper, focusing on the characteristics of regional culture, and based on Xiaohong'slong and short novels, from a new angle, illustrates systematically the cultural connotation ofXiaohong's novels from three aspects: creative thoughts, women's writing and folk images. Inthe first part, the paper analyzes Xiaohong's heritage and development on Luxun'sexploration of nationalistic nature, emphasizes on the criticism of nationalistic deep-rootedbad habits of people living in the Northeastern China, and through analyzing the particularcases, compares Ma Bole, Uncle You with a Q in Luxun's novel. The second part mainlyillustrates how Xiaohong, dominated by the consciousness of women's rights, depicted andpondered over the women's tragic fates in old China in her novels, meanwhile makes athorough analyses on the social and cultural causes leading to those women tragedies, andpoints out the men violence and folk corrupt customs in Northeastern China are the roots ofthose women tragedies, and violence and feudal ethical codes are the two mountains on thewomen's backs. Then through the comparative analyses of the cultural implication of"mother-in-law phenomena", completes Xiaohong's cultural criticism and social criticism.The third part discusses the peculiar regional culture and folk images in Xiaohong's novels.The part analyzes in detail how the cold "winter" affects on Northerners' irritable and fiercecharacter, combined with "practicing sorcery" and " big mud pit", and criticizes theNortheastern people's laziness, the corrupt customs of following the old routine, and thementalities of idle viewers, also probes into the regional culture system to dig out the reasonsof forming these corrupt habits and mentalities, and constructs an ideal and humanisticparadise using " the back garden". In the paper, during the course of analyzing, all these threeparts depend on each other, and prove for each other, also arrange in a reasonable order, thenbecome a harmonious and integrated system.
