With the theory of general communication as its central theory, the theory of intercultural communication was established in the 1970s and it developed by adopting the achievement of other subjects concerned. Springing up from America in the 1930s and the 1940s, intercultural communication became popular in the research of foreign language education. Nowadays it has been accepted that the final aim of foreign language education is to develop students'competence of intercultural communication.Taking the theory of intercultural communication as the theory base, and English Course Criteria for China Elemental Education and English Course Criteria for University Teaching as most important references, the suitable English teaching method in China is discussed in this paper.In view of English learners'situation in China, the research adopted some advanced concepts of language teaching with the attempt to better domestic English education. Combined with China English teaching reform and the requirements of quality-oriented education, it analyzed the availabilities and necessities of applying intercultural-communication English teaching in China. A detailed interpretation on intercultural-communication English teaching is made and proper teaching strategies are proposed in this paper, which aim at helping English teachers and learners find out more effective methods in picking up the language. It concludes that intercultural-communication English teaching meets the requirements of the society for English talents and will serve to develop highly qualified English learners for our country.
