This is a research about the effect of English movies on students’ intercultural communication competence of secondary vocational school.In the context of globalization, intercultural communication is increasing. ICC has become a necessary quality of modern talents. So developing students’ ICC is one of the main aims of English teaching of a secondary vocational school.This research outlines the development of ICC theory at home and abroad. Research on Intercultural communication started in the 50’s last century. Scholars of our country started to realize this aspect of questions. From mid-eighties, some colleges began to set up intercultural communication courses, and at the same time, books started to be published.Now,more and more scholars are aware of the importance and positive effects of English movie to English learning. As a supplementary means of English teaching, English movie are increasingly applied in colleges。They increase English movie appreciation courses in English teaching to strengthen students’ study on British and American culture and linguistic. But there has been little research in the effects of English movie on students’ intercultural communication competence, so it provides broad research space on this aspect for scholars in the future.This research tried to explore the effects of English movies on students’ intercultural communication competence using some research methods, such as questionnaires, interviews and experiment。We take two natural classes of the first grades in a secondary vocational school the author works, one is experimental group, the other is control group. In the prior period, questionnaire and English proficiency tests are taken to find out students’ current learning situation. In the mid-term, teaching experiment is taken in two classes, traditional teaching method in the control class, English movie auxiliary teaching in the experiment class. In the later period, we take interviews, questionnaires and test to investigate the improved conditions of learning motivation, English level and intercultural communication competence.From the experiment, we can draw a conclusion that English movie has positive effects on students’ intercultural communication competence. But in the teaching process of English movie, there are still some problems, for example, what kind of English movie should be chosen in English teaching, or, how often we have movie lessons in a week or a semester. These problems need for further research in the area of English movie teaching.This research has certain limitations because of experiment time and range。If there is enough experimental time, the experimental data will be more accurate, and the experimental effect will be better. The sample in the experiment can’t represent English learners of all areas and ages.
