In the Age of Information, computers are playing more and more outstanding roles in people's life. As the technology of the Internet goes deeper and becomes plebeianized, teaching with the aid of the Internet has become a new tendency in the circles of education. The Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) has experienced a quite long history of development, and accompanied by the multimedia and the Internet, it is ready to step into a brand-new stage.Language learning is different from the learning of other subjects, for it cares much about a sound and beneficial language environment. Due to the limitations of language classroom teaching, the extracurricular learning of English will probably become an optimal means for language learners in China to launch their expandable study. The Internet has been moving into the language classroom, but in the field of extracurricular learning, it shows more of greatness in its advantages. Thanks to the Internet with the features of convenience, updatedness and super capacity, students are facilitated to effectively improve the learning state of their own—from the attitude and awareness of learning a foreign language, to the practical language communications.The thesis presented basic literature review on the developmental history of CALL and its advantages.
