The discussion on the two cultures (scientific culture and human culture) has been a hot topic in recent years, and with the progress of the science and technology, more and more people are concerned about this issue. The division of the two cultures stems from the arising of modern science. The scientific world and the living world were divided by the natural outlook of modern science. The concept of the two cultures can be traced back to the British scholar C.P Snow's lecture entitled "Two Cultures" at the end of 1950s, or even earlier. It became a really hot issue at the end of 1980s. For over 20 years, scholars intensely discussed the relationship and future of scientific culture and of human culture. But these discussions were mostly from the degree of unification and integration of the two cultures, and we emphasized on the integration and development of the scientific spirit and humanistic spirit. This article focuses on researching the evolution and philosophical reflection of the two cultures outlook in 20th Century China. The contradiction and conflicts of these two cultures are clearly visible over the history of both western and Chinese civilization. Firstly, the article defines the connotations and characters of the two cultures, then from the historical perspective cast back the partite background when the concept was first proposed. Secondly, several historical events have revealed the true identity of the two cultures highlighted in China: from the "May Fourth New Cultural Movement", the debate pf science and metaphysics, the period of war, to the establishing the "New China". Finally, the article demonstrates how the two cultures should reflect in a philosophical aspect. It makes a philosophical reflection about the two cultures evolution in China. This article asserts that the two cultures have exposed contradictions and unbalances in the Chinese modernization process, and become a universal phenomenon. Such unbalances and contradictions obviously not only exist in the field of culture, but in all aspects of social life such as material development and human progress, equity and efficiency and benefit and costin social living, etc. As a result, we see its positive aspects, similarly, we should also reflect on some aspects which should be noted in its modernization process. In other words, the two cultures emerge their characters in the context of 20th Century China;it is also the main objective of this point. In today's China, science has received our full support, but the humanities also have their own place. This article sorts the evolution of the two cultures outlook in 20th Century China, providing a clear understanding of the topic. This article adopts historical comparative methods, from a realistic point of explaining a line of evolution of the two cultures, and then to the development of the Chinese modernization process, and a corresponding philosophical reflection. The conclusion is: we should construct a new millennium-specific integration of 20' Century China in this particular context. This will provide useful references and supplementation for the modernization. Its purpose is to explore the evolution and philosophical reflection of the two cultures outlook in 20l Century China. It provides multi-cultural aspect and multi-level thinking for the related issues of the two cultures.
