| Folksongs, featured by rich contents, extensive subjects and diverse types, are the most essential and significant part of the literature of the Qiang people. There arises an urgent need to preserve the ethnic identity and maintain the continuity of the Qiang culture against the background of globalization and economic integration. This paper presents a preliminary research into the translation of the Qiang people's love songs, 100 of which have been translated by the author of this paper and published.Translation, as a medium of culture exchange, is the bridge to the acquainting and understanding of the Qiang culture. The significance of translation in the Qiang people's life and the characteristics of the Qiang people's love songs are analyzed, and the Qiang people's love-life and worshipping nature is vividly reproduced. The process of discovering the homegrown simplicity and beauty can be found in the whole translation. Each love song reflects the Qiang people's pure and sincere personality, their pursuit of happiness and the understanding of life meaning. And the translation is realized by making full use of devices in writing poems and some translated versions of Chinese-English ballads.Four-aspect orientations in the process of translating the Qiang people's love songs are discussed. They are text, translator, audience, and social reality, which are indispensable to the whole translation. The spectrum of the Qiang people's loving life and worshipping nature is vividly presented. In doing so, the author sincerely hopes that the Qiang people's love songs will continue to grow with the help of the translating and the related bearings brought forth by the translating process will contribute in some way to the minority folkloric translations. |
