The Reform Movement of 1898 in China's recent history is a very important historical event. Basically, the Reform Movement of 1898 occurred for two reasons : First, the internal cause is corruption of the rule of the Qing government;Second, the external cause is intensified aggression of Western Powers. Since the beginning of modern times, they interacted and affected with each other. It caused the Reform Movement of 1898 eventually. The failure of Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 was fiery rope of the outbreak of the political reform.China has created brilliant China Civilization before modern age and occupied leading position for this for a long period in world history. But after the Opium War of China steped into modern age, situation was completely different. The invasion because of Western Powers made entire Chinese social appearance that thousands of years China had had no change bureau. Country base was shaken for it. To deal with this kind of violent change,Westernization Movement was one time of preliminary exploration, however this effort was a kind of tackling the surface rather than the root. First, it was defeated in the Sino-French War of 1884-1885.Secondly, it defeated in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895. This made the political reform that had been pregnant for a long time become the historical main stream in late of Qing Dynasty.Kang Youwei's leading " Gong che shang shu "on May 2 1895 signed the formal beginning of the Reform Movement of 1898.
