In the studies of the Chinese modern literature, the study on Lu Xun is undoubtedly one of the most concerned and fruitful disciplines; but it leads to all kinds of antagonistic perspectives, and lefts more doubts. This thesis holds that Present and After-present are Lu Xun's two fundamental ways of thinking, under which lies Lu Xun's philosophy of life and value: the principle of 'seeking truth from facts'. But this has been ignored by researchers. Lu Xun's profundity, diverse contradictions and complexity form gradually because of the three mental angles which are from the insistences of Lu Xun's vision of principle of 'seeking truth from facts', which treats equally Present and After-present. The thesis discusses it from the ways as follows:The introduction includes the recalling of the academic history and the definition of the concepts.The first part discusses Lu Xun's Present: In real life, it embodies in Lu Xun's realistic feeling and taking account of both things in work and life, family and marriage, receiving people and holding things; in his literature, it appears as Lu Xun's concept of literature of pursuing the Present truth, real materials and themes from life, the tendency of rifting and giving consideration to both sides, and integration in the creative techniques, the stressing of the subject's spirits in the theme, and so on.The second part discusses Lu Xun's After-present: In real life, it embodies in Lu Xun's worries of life, his delaying of the act and concerning of living; in his literature, it appears as the concept of literature of pursuing the After-present truth, the literature's themes and subjects expressed After-present, the characteristics of skepticism and thoroughness in his thinking world and, the worries after having constructed texts, and so on.The third part discusses the general relations between Present and After-present on the philosophic dimension and the realistic dimension, thereby, discusses Lun Xun's Present and After-present. In Lu Xun's world, Present and After-present which appear as 'pair', are equally important and the two have the inherent tensions of mutual sure and mutual opposes, mutual saves and mutual binds.The forth part discusses several Lu Xun's dilemmas of Present and After-present in the vision of the principle of 'seeking truth from facts' which constitutes Lu Xun's basic thinking pattern.
