This is a historical thesis of a regional famine due to crop failures. Fujian Province, as an ordinary administrative division, it is not the political centre, also not important economic place like Suzhou, Songshan, Changzhou. The famine research of this area can bring us more universality conclusion. Meanwhile, Fujian Province has many mountains and few cultivated fields, so the famine takes place more frequently. Regard this as the breakthrough point and carry on research, we can get more reality and typical meaning. The first part of this text is mainly to introduce the background of the famine of Fujian area in Ming Dynasty. The rice is main crops in Fujian Province, so have sufficient source of water that could play an important role in grain-production. Shangsifu's mountain is very high, and the source of water is sufficient, such as Pucheng, Jianyang, Jianning. Cultivated fields of these places are many and fertile, and they are famous by producing rice. Such a geographical advantage is the main reason that it can support the low reaches of Min River a lot of rice. In view of natural environment, Shangsifu is superior to Xiashifu and has stronger ability to resist famine. Xiasifu has more people and fewer cultivated fields, and its commodity economy is developed, so industrial crops tie up the space of cultivation of cereal crops , the grain can't be self-sufficient. Fuzhou area can get assistance from the upper reaches of Min River, but there is no convenient waterway to linked Pu, Quan,Zhang areas and Shangsifu, and Shangsifu has not enough ability to give assistance to the whole province, so these areas mainly rely on the rice from Jiangsu, Guangdong and Zhejiang Provinces , Knowing these background general knowledge help us to know the famine of Fujian area more deeply. The reason of the famine takes place is varied , the emergence of the famine of Fujian area was mainly because of various natural calamity in Ming Dynasty. The drought has great influence on grain-production. Because of difference of geographical environment, Shangsifu has stronger ability to resist famine, than Xiasifu, so Xiasifu's famine is more incident because of the droughts. From attached list II "famine chronological table of Fujian of Ming Dynasty ", we can see that, though the famine of Fujian area was frequent in the Ming Dynasty, but there are less large range, extensive famine. The relief of the famine does not just begin after the famine take place. Ordinary storage is important, so the second part of this text will give more attention to the storage of Fujian area. Ming Dynasty has its own special in its storage policy, and the main storage of Fujian area is Yubei storage. However, since it was built, because of the problem of source, quantity and management ,etc, It fell into the circulation " build - - destroy - - rebuild ". In latter stage of Ming Dynasty, it disappeared or became Changping storage. Yubei storage turned into Changping storage., has its inevitable reason: On one...
