The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River was the economic center of China in Ming Dynasty.In this period,the commodity economy of Jiangnan region had developed,textile,porcelain,printing and other handicraft industry had a certain scale.The population of Huguang,Jiangxi and other places grew rapidly,its agricultural had been developed,its output in the country has a pivotal position.But the prosperity of the region behind the existence of frequent disasters and people's livelihood was another difficult scene.According to the "General History of China Disaster" statistics,the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River totaled 1630 times disasters occurred in the 277 years of Ming Dynasty,the average annual occurrence of 5.88 times.An average of nearly two months will occur a natural disaster,It's have no precedent of such frequency of disaster in Chinese history before.Is the so-called food is the first necessity of the people.The problem of eating during famine has always been a major concern for the victims.This paper will focus on the following:? Ways for victims to obtain relief grain when the crop was destroyed.Including the government's relief means(opening up food aid;food borrowing;grain mobilization;Porridge relief);the nongovernmental relief(respond to the call of the government;public granary;spontaneous relief)? Analysis the cannibalism and the edible plants when lack of foreign relief under the sever famine,to know the edible parts,in which season is edible,the edible way of the wild plant.And we will discuss the deep reasons for cannibalism in ancient times.? Analyzes the impact of society on the famine diet in the Ming Dynasty,including the relationship between the transfer of food production center and the food supply in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River;the relationship between taxes and famine diet;the relationship between the introduction of American crops in the Ming Dynasty and the disaster relief.
