| William Faulkner is a famous modernistic writer. He is well-known for the multiple narrative point-of-view in his novels. This thesis is trying to analyze most of his novels and concludes how he neatly uses so many point-of-view to express himself.Firstly, this thesis analyzes from the social background of Faulkner's creation and shows how the changes of thoughts caused by the social development during the turning point between 19th and 20th century and the particularity of American Southern Literature affect Faulkner's creation. Afterwards, based on direct reading experience, author concludes the unique classification for views of Faulkner in this thesis, with the samples of forms, characteristics and functions of each narrative point-of-view and the analysis of flexibility in use and forms of combinations among all these points of view. This thesis emphasizes the analysis of combination of the multiple narrative point-of-view and analyzes the phenomena of "telling story by several people together" concerned by critics in detail, with samples of 3 novel.Finally, this thesis concludes from detailed analysis that the reason why Faulkner's form of narrative is so unique is because of the changing in aesthetic view of art in modern society, the tendency for defacing of aesthetic contents and breaking-up of aesthetic forms. However, Faulkner follows the tendency and keeps his devotion for the tradition of South, so that his novels are uniquely charming. |
