Purposes: 1) To compare the mental health of pregnant females with that of general females; to research the supposed factors that may influence the mental health of pregnant females: age, educational record, occupation, only-child originating family and different gestation period. 2) Based on the above conclusion and aiming at certain pregnant females who have anxious or depressed phenomenon, this study uses group counseling to explore the direct-effect function of psychic intervention, and tries to independently design a set of available counseling procedures.Methods: Questionnaires. Research instruments include the Pregnant Female Basic Information Table, Symptom Checklist 90, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Self-rating Depression Scale, Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory. SPSS12.0 for data processing.Conclusions: 1) Compared with general females, pregnant females in Shanghai have better mental health. But their emotional disorders also exist objectively. The most common mental health problems are somatization, anxiety and depression. 2) Compared with pregnant females of other age, those less than 25 years old have higher scores in hostility; Pregnant females whose school records are junior middle school have higher scores in horror and paranoid than the others; Pregnant females whose occupations are farmers have higher scores in horror and depression than the others; Pregnant females whose are labor workers or jobless are more sensitive in interpersonal relationship; There is no significant differences among pregnant females concerning the supposed factors of only-child originating family and different gestation periods. 3) Group counseling can alleviate anxiety and uncomfortableness of these pregnant females. But, there is no significant effect in alleviating the depression of pregnant females. Group counseling is suitable for promoting in community hospitals as an important model of alleviating the anxiety of pregnant females.
