The author of this thesis makes a contrast between Chinese and English cultural thought patterns and analyzes their reflection in Chinese and English languages with the intention of trying to contribute to the English learning and teaching in China. As the theme is related to the relationship between culture, thought and language, which is a conflicting and interesting problem in the linguistic field, the author first discusses the relationship between them with the introduction of the theories and opinions of some representative scholars dealing with this issue. Then based on this discussion the author puts forward her own view that since language, culture and thought are so closely related to each other people from different cultural background will develop different preferences in thought patterns. These diverse thought patterns of different cultures will definitely be reflected in the languages as language is culturally transmitted. Then the author makes a detailed contrast between the two kinds of thought patterns and analyzes their reflection in Chinese and English languages. In the following part of this thesis, the author points out that the Chinese cultural thought patterns bring some negative effect on Chinese EFL learners and some suggestions based on the author's experience and research are made to help improve English learning and teaching in China.
