Objective: To investigate the trend of personality development and psychosocial factors of modern medical freshmen, and to explore how to carry out their mental education for the students.Method: The stratified sampling method was adopted for the study. 2315 medical freshmen from 1999 to 2004 were evaluated with MMPI. To analyse the difference of scores of MMPI between male and female, the difference between city and country, and the trend of student's personality development.Result: Male had higher scores for Hypochondriasis. Psychopathic deviate. Psychasthenia, Schizophrenia and Social introversion, while female had an accordant variety in all indexes except Masculinity-femininity, Infrequency or fake bad and Defensiveness year by year. And the difference was significant (P<0.05 or 0.001). Lie declined year by year. Defensiveness changed in "V" shape. Hypochondriasis, Psychopathic deviate, Psychasthenia, Schizophrenia and Hypomania changed in "A" shape. Depression, Hysteria, Paranoia and Social introversion boosted year by year.
