In recent years, deconstructive theory has a great impact on the theories and practice of translation, as it does on other areas of social sciences and humanities. No matter what attitude one has to take towards this trend, as translation theorists and practitioners we have to have a thorough understanding of this theoretical tendency, and then an appropriate evaluation of the theory and its applications. This thesis starts to introduce deconstruction from its philosophical origin and then analyzes the deconstructive translation theories and strategies sponsored by"the father of deconstruction", Derrida and the preeminent representative Lawrence Venuti. I hope these efforts can give a clear view of deconstruction translation theory and also the advantages and disadvantages of this theory.Deconstruction is a post-structuralism trend of thought which inaugurated in the late 1960s in France. It originates in philosophy but penetrates into every aspect of our social life. It originates in Jacques Derrida, who was often called the"the father of deconstruction". Lawrence Venuti as an important representative, studies and develops this theory in the field of translation, and he published several books on the topic providing many deconstructive theory and strategies.In the 20th century, with the occurrence of different theories involved in philosophical and literary fields, translation studies also undergoes linguistic turn and cultural turn. At the very beginning, the critiques of deconstruction translation theory are with two sides, both the compliment and denouncement.The main reasons are firstly, it challenges the traditional translation theories which intend to establish a system with one center, binary opposition and worship of"the only truth". Deconstruction, quite to the contrary, aims at breaking this one-centered mechanism, and claims that an open pluralistic and tolerant system should be established. As a new borne baby, this kind of treason of course attracts some criticism. On the other hand, deconstruction summons to break the authority of the author as well as the source text and emphasizes that there should be many versions of translation and textualism is not necessary.
