On Ancient Chinese Poetical Quality

Philosophy or wisdom, It is the primitive foundation for Sino-western Poetical thinking. The value of the western poetics is the pursuit of sameness ,truth, universality .But Chinese literary theory pursues the clarity of the poetical quality. The value of the poetical grounds extends in the infiniteness. The extension of Chinese poetical grounds will not lead us in the direction of universality and essentialism of western poetics. The extension is always infinite and changeable with rich meaning. Its principle is to stress the nonbeing of the poetical grounds ,namely , to express infinite meaning with finite words. In a word, the poetical grounds lie in the infinite meaning.Such poetical characteristics of Chinese literary theory began with Book of Changes and the philosophy of Lao zi and Zhuang zi, prospered in the Dynasties of Wei and Jin. This philosophy was gradually introduced into literary theory, and pushed forward its development. Zhong Rong's 'Theory of Tasting', Liu Xie's 'Hiding and Beauty' ,Jiao Ran's 'Mood of Literal Work',Yan Yu's 'Miaculous Awakening', Yuan Mei's 'Native Sensebility' ,Wang Guowei's 'State Theory' and so on,saved no efforts to explore the inner quality of Chinese poetical grounds. In the long time exploration, they stressed'The Hidden Meaning', ' The Flavor beyond the Flavor' , 'The Words Fail to Convey the Meaning', 'The Image beyond the Image',ect.
